Knowing what makes you happy

When I ask people what is the one thing they want above all else in life, their answer is usually some interpretation of happiness. Simply put, they just want to be happy. Yes, some do want world domination, others want a house on the hill with a view and a pool boy (maybe that’s just me 😉), others want to be fit & strong, others want nothing more than a safe roof over their heads. When you peel it all back, they want these things because they think having them will make them happy. Maybe it will, maybe it won’t (just to clarify the house on the hill with a view and a pool boy WILL make me very very happy), because the fact is most of us actually have no idea what genuinely makes us happy.

Being happy sounds simple enough and to be honest who doesn’t want to be happy. I do. However, when we say we want to be happy, what does that even look and feel like?

When I say happy, I don’t mean my life is ok and compared to others I’m doing well so can’t really complain, kind of happy. When I say happy, I mean that life is joyously abundant, I am thriving, I am showing up, I am getting shit done, I am creating memories with my friends and family, prioritising what is important to me, filling up my cup, sprinkling joy on others, kind of happy. YES I do mean that all-encompassing, my cup is over flowing, I am giddy with life, type of happiness.

Life is full of trials and tribulations, so I know is it ridiculous to think it is possible to be bouncing through life on the daily like we are skipping through paddocks of spring flowers with no cares in the world. However, I also know that happiness is a state of mind and it is entirely up to you as to whether you chose to be happy or not in any given moment. It is 100% determined by your internal beliefs, thoughts and actions. And that is where it can all go a bit pear shaped. When you start to have those self-limiting beliefs of, I am not good enough and I am not worthy, these get translated into your thoughts, which then affect your actions….and you know the rest of the story.

Now is the time for you to let go of those self-limiting beliefs. To take charge of your mindset and to take charge of your happiness.

Before any of this you need to understand what truly, right to your inner self, makes you happy. Think big. Think outside the box. Look at life with rose tinted glasses. If there was an abundance of time, money and resources what exactly is it that gives you that all-encompassing, my cup is over flowing, I am giddy with life, type of happiness?
